Adam Kuby • RACC InSitu (4)

Adam Kuby: Portland Acupuncture Project, April 24, 2010-October 24, 2010. Steel, plastic, foam, and fabric. Portland, Oregon: Regional Arts & Culture Council.

This project explores the interface between art, regional planning, traditional Chinese medicine and the health of a city. With help from acupuncturists, city planners, ecologists, artists, writers, and the general public at the South Waterfront Guest Artist Residency Program, Adam Kuby envisioned Portland as a metaphorical body, considering its health through the non-western lens of acupuncture and Chinese medicine.

Unfolding over the course of 2010, this 6-month art installation coincided with a series of public workshops to help steer the Portland Plan, a guide for the city’s growth over the next 25 years. Needles appearing across the city brought attention to some of the city’s most challenging problems, greatest assets, and places with enormous potential.
