Project Description

Buhler, Gary. Aurora. Watercolor, 15 x 16 inches. 2011. Exhibited in Urban Landscapes by Gary Buhler & Impressions by Mabel Rush Elementary Students, June 6-July 18, 2014. Newberg, Oregon: Chehalem Cultural Center.

In regards to this exhibition, Gary states “I use oil paint and caligraphy ink to reveal the stories that reside in my subconscious. I transform them with a splash and wash technique and expose the images on canvas. The oil merges with ink – the muddled pool is filled and purified. I believe that any over-saturated condition or emotional turbulence can become organized. I create spaces to distill the essence of abstraction until the landscape, wildlife, human figures, or mythical images emerge. These images celebrate a compelling journey of my mind, body and spirit in an attempt to find freedom and peace. With each painting telling its own story, I paint to awe and to inspire, one piece at a time.”
