When the East Wind Blows: Grace Lim, April 4-May 23. Exhibition card. Newberg, Oregon: Chehalem Cultural Center, 2014.
Grace Lim uses oil paint and calligraphy ink to reveal the stories that reside in her subconscious. She transforms them with a splash and wash technique and exposes the images on canvas. The oil merges with ink – the muddled pool is filled and purified. She believes that any oversaturated condition or emotional turbulence can become organized. She creates spaces to distill the essence of abstraction until the landscape, wildlife, human figures, or mythical images emerge. These images celebrate a compelling journey of her mind, body and spirit in an attempt to find freedom and peace. With each painting telling its own story, she paints to awe and to inspire, one piece at a time.
