Perry Doane: Full Standard (34), January 10 – 31, 2015. Installation view. Springfield, Oregon: Ditch Projects, 2015.
“The challenge of reinterpreting complex systems on my own terms has always appealed to me. I am not a practical, logical, linear thinker. I see things in reverse order – taking the wrong path to find my own way in. This has taught me to make a lot of work and then work reductively.I rely on my immediate and direct experience with American institutions to drive whatever gut reactions I may have. As I progress through imagery, I am generating new meanings and reasons for manipulating the work. Rules emerge and are systematically dismantled. I enjoy allowing myself to push the uncontrolled. Often the process and building the processes becomes the work. The structure is at once documentation and research, evidence and action. I am remembering who I was while questioning the fabrication of the foundations the individual is built upon.”
