Warner, Olin Levi. Historic Sculpture: Skidmore Fountain. Bronze and granite. 1888.
Skidmore Fountain is the oldest artwork in the City of Portland’s Public Art Collection. The fountain was designed and built by sculptor Olin Levi Warner with donated funds, and was dedicated September 22, 1888 in memory of Stephen G. Skidmore. It is styled after fountains Skidmore viewed on his visit to the 1878 Paris Exposition and was intended as a water source for “horses, men, and dogs.”
